Draco doesn't slam the door to his old room. He can't wake Scorpius. His son is sleeping. He needs his sleep. He'd been so small when he'd been placed in Draco's arms. Not to mention so still. Draco can still smell the copper rich blood from his son's wounds. He knows the blood is gone from his chest where he'd cradled him but Draco feels like it's still there.

He doesn't know when his legs give out he barely realizes he's sitting on the floor with his back against the wall and his fist against his mouth trying to hold back - trying to hold on. A flick of his wand and the room is soundproofed.

The minute the charm is up Draco pulls his hand away from his mouth and the scream - the horrible ugly scream that's been building inside of him since he'd first heard about his son bursts from his lungs. It's the sound of someone beyond agony. It claws its way out of his throat tearing furrows in his soul. It. Does. Not. Stop.

He screams for his son. For Scorpius who must have cried out for him. For his failure as a father, a husband, a son and a man. For his wife. For his betrayal of her and their marriage. For betraying his heart and his soul. For his father. His father. His - nothing now.

and the scream does not stop until the tears come.

Draco wrote out two owls, one to his mother telling her not to come home. Thankfully the manor had been empty when they arrived and he would prefer she not walk into the middle of things - the second owl was to Voldemort informing him of his success.

Done with owls, Draco reluctantly lifted the Silencio from Hermione.
